As the Southern Railway was absorbed into British Railways, 2655 was stored under cover and out of use at Fratton, one of six Terriers, where only two were required for the Hayling branch. In December 1949, the newly numbered 32655 became the first Terrier to receive the BR lined black livery at Brighton and then regularly worked the Hayling services until 1960. 32655 also hauled the last K&ESR public passenger services on 2 Jan. 1954.
