On 16 July 1969 at 9.32 a.m. the gigantic Saturn V of Cape Canaveral, the most important journey in the history of mankind, was launched. The Apollo spaceship with which the astronauts were transported to the moon consists of 2 components, the command capsule and the service module. The command capsule contained the accommodation/cockpit area for the 3 astronauts. Oxygen and power were supplied from the service module, which also contained the main propulsion unit. Only a few minutes before entering the Earth's atmosphere, the command capsule was separated from the service module. Only the command capsule returned to earth and landed safely in the Pacific hanging on parachutes.
